In January 28, 2016, the State Congress received a notification from the National Supreme Court of Justice (SCJN) that endorses marriage between same-sex couples in the state of Jalisco, Mexico.
This document declares articles 260, 258, and 260-BIS of the Civil Code of the State of Jalisco, invalid. Said articles motioned that marriage could only exists amongst a man and a woman.
In accordance with the new ruling of the National Supreme Court of Justice (SCJN), same-sex couples will now be allowed to marry all throughout the state of Jalisco, without any specific restrictions, other than those restrictions established for all.
This means that in Puerto Vallarta, from this date on, any couple, irrespective of gender, wishing to marry, may do so without hindrance and enjoy all the benefits that the law grants to celebrate marriage.
The established requirements to process a same-sex marriage contract in Jalisco are exactly the same as those required for traditional couples. See established requirements here.
