All foreign documents, except the passport, must be apostilled by the authorities of the foreign country where they were issued. Also, a Certified Translator must translate the birth certificates into Spanish.
We will arrange for a copy of the marriage license to be sent to you immediately after the ceremony. The translated and final license, which has international legal validity, (including in the U.S.) can be requested and be mailed to you within one or two months after the wedding.
Religious ceremony
The paperwork for the Catholic ceremony must be completed in the parish corresponding to your home address area. They will subsequently send a sealed and completed file to the church of your choice in Puerto Vallarta, usually within 15 days prior to the wedding day. We will make sure that the file has been received and that all the documents are in order.
Other religious ceremonies are also available, such as Lutheran, Jewish, etc. Make sure to notify your Wedding Planner the type of ceremony that your interested in, so she can verify the availability of the officiant and requirements in advance.
Spiritual or Symbolic ceremony
The Spiritual or Symbolic Ceremony does not require specific paperwork since it is usually officiated by a minister of peace withno denomination, therefore, you and your fiance will be able to choose the rituals that are more suitable for you. i.e. sand, wine, candle, etc.
Native ceremony
The native ceremony does not require filing any special paperwork. The only request for couples is to prepare their own vows to be exchanged during the ceremony. However, it is worth mentioning that some couples decide not to exchange vows

As a Certified Wedding Planner I encourage couples to go choose for the ideal ceremony for their Destination Wedding according to the time, legalities, requirements, but above all of that, the one more suitable for their vision of their Destination Wedding, the one that makes feel complete and plenty. This will be a day to remember; therefore we have to make the ceremony as special as we can.
Here are some of my insights regarding the most common ceremonies for a Puerto Vallarta Destination Wedding.
The Civil Ceremony is performed by a “Justice of Peace,” this person is usually a representative of the Civil Registry Office. In most cases it does not exceed 20 minutes, and it can be held at the location of your choice. The certificate of civil marriage has legal validity in Mexico, and it can also be validated in other countries, as long as the requirements and laws of the original country are fulfilled. In order to celebrate the Civil Ceremony, both bride and groom must be single. In case one, or both are divorced or widowers, legal documentation must be presented to the Civil Registry Office to attest to it.
In order to get legally married in Puerto Vallarta you will need to start the paperwork process at least 2 months in advance.
Note that if you have been divorced you will need to wait at least one year before remarrying.
Please also note that if your time is too limited to comply with these formalities, you may, by all means, still opt to have a beautiful symbolic wedding instead.
The most common is the Catholic ceremony and this one is generally held at a church, under the requirements and rites of the religion. The ceremony is considered a Sacrament, and it is performed by a priest. It can last between 45 to 60 minutes. Certain matters need to be arranged previously in order to fulfill the rites that the Catholic religion establishes for a religious ceremony; these may include the rings, the coins (arras), and the “tie that binds” (lazo).
Spiritual or Symbolic ceremony
The Spiritual or Symbolic Ceremony is an alternate choice for those couples that are not interested in conventional ceremonies. Couples are free to exchange their own vows and incorporate the traditions and rites that they wish. This is also the perfect ceremony of choice to renew vows for a wedding anniversary.
The Spiritual or Symbolic Ceremony has no religious denomination; therefore, couples that have been previously married in a Civil or Religious Ceremony can also get married in a Spiritual or Symbolic Ceremony, or simply renew their vows to reinforce the love they feel for each other.
A native wedding ceremony is a spiritual event based on Native American traditions, it symbolizes the union of day and night, sun and moon, earth and sun, male and female, the duality of the universe coming together as one and a true reflection of a couple’s inner spirituality and beliefs.
For those from another culture, this ceremony offers a truly distinctive wedding experience, some couples embrace traditions from their heritage, and others prefer a more personal approach. Either way, a native ceremony offers a unique experience that incorporates respect and understanding of individual beliefs and traditions. Since these ceremonies are not religious, any belief can be incorporated into the ceremonial, it is important to mention that the native ceremony does not have legal validity; therefore, it does not require filing any special paperwork.
Finally, it is important to mention that all ceremonies can be performed in English, Spanish or both (English and Spanish at the same time).

Read MoreAs mind boggling as it sounds, nowadays there are many couples that doubt of the importance of hiring a wedding planner to plan and coordinate their destination wedding. Even though, a certified wedding planner is, in big part, the key to make one of the most important days of your life, that perfect and stream lined event you have always dreamed of.
A certified wedding planner will make your life easier at one of the most difficult times in your life. Planning a wedding in your place of residence, without a wedding planner, is hard enough; planning a destination wedding, without a wedding planner, that just a disaster waiting to happen!
However, it never fails, many couples opt to try to save a few bucks and decide to take the risk of planning their own destination wedding. Nonetheless, as soon as the big date nears, they realize the complications and stress that trying to coordinate so many things at once generates: work demands, getting ready for the trip, paying remaining balances due to vendors, planning your honeymoon, dealing with last minute changes, cancellations or additional guests, having to deal with vendors that are not responding to your e-mails, preparing welcome kits, supervising deliveries, drafting and revising the itinerary, coordinating the set up and break down on the event day, hormones, etc. It is at this point that you wish you had hired a certified wedding planner. You see, a certified wedding planner deals with all the stressful facets of your big day, so you in turn, can devote time to enjoy this big adventure with your soon to be husband, family and friends; all of whom have made huge efforts to be with you during your last few single days, and to witness you and your loved one unite and say, “I do”.
It is true that some hotels will offer you a package deal, which usually includes a wedding planner. But do not be fooled! In most of those cases, this wedding planner’s planning capabilities are limited to only certain aspects of your wedding, as s/he will only be coordinating the services offered within the bounds of your chosen hotel. Often times they are also obligated to recommend vendors who have existing contracts with the hotel, and in most cases, they are not the best suited vendors for your needs. Lastly, please consider that these wedding planners are juggling a myriad of weddings aside from yours, some on the same day! Hence, their attention and timely response to your needs might be compromised and not as devoted as you would expect, and realize you need.
On the other hand, a certified wedding planner will not only help you plan and execute every aspect of your wedding, s/he will also share with you their experience with the destination and the industry; s/he will also help you find the ideal venue for your celebration, select the vendors which are best suited for your needs, and further, s/he will negotiate the best conditions and prices for you and your guests. A certified wedding planner will maximize your budget and will personally supervise and ensure that vendors render their services at 100% capacity on the big day.
A certified wedding planner will also ensure that all the proper paperwork is filed on time and with no complications, s/he will provide you with samples of the design and flowers in advance, to guarantee that everything looks just the way you want it. S/he will elaborate a detailed itinerary of the big day; s/he will rehearse, with you and your bridal party, every single aspect, down to the smallest of details, to make sure everyone knows their role in the wedding. S/he will answer all of your questions, and qualm any of your concerns or unexpected last minute inconveniences that may arise.
